MEET RACHEL SAMSON

An Australian-based Psychologist, Media Expert, Educator, Author and her favorite title, Mom. 

Rachel is a clinical psychologist with over a decade of clinical experience supporting children and families. She works with parents seeking support as they navigate the parts of parenting that leave them feeling frustrated, exhausted, and hopeless.

I help parents make sense of their child’s behaviour and parent in ways that support their child’s developing mind (and feel good).

Rachel has over a decade of clinical experience working with children and families. She works from a developmental and relationship approach and is highly experienced in the application of attachment science to clinical practice. Rachel held a senior psychologist position with the Government of South Australia, Specialist Child and Youth Service where she provided home-based intensive family intervention for children and families with complex needs.


Rachel holds a Bachelor of Psychology with first class honours and a master of psychology (clinical). She was twice awarded the Australian Psychological Society (APS) prize for excellence in psychology.

Rachel has delivered invited seminars and workshops, published research, co-authored book chapters, and presented at national and international conferences, including in Turkey, Austria, and the Netherland, on therapeutic work with parents, parent-child attachment, high sensitivity and differential susceptibility, and the treatment of personality disorders.

Rachel has advanced-level international certification in Schema Therapy with trainer-supervisor status and is a member of the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST). She has undertaken training and supervision in Schema Therapy with supervisors in Australia, the Netherlands, and the United States. Rachel collaborated with Dr. Jeffrey Young, the founder of Schema Therapy, and Dr. George Lockwood on the development of an expanded Schema Therapy model for highly sensitive and emotionally reactive individuals which was presented at the ISST international conference in Amsterdam in 2018. 

Rachel is a registered Circle of Security Parent Facilitator. She trained in the assessment of parent-child attachment in the John Bowlby-Mary Ainsworth tradition with Alan Sroufe and Elizabeth Carlson at the University of Minnesota and the assessment of maternal sensitivity with Marian Bakermans-Kranenburg at the University of Cambridge. Rachel is a member of the International Attachment Network (IAN). Rachel is trained in the neuroprotective developmental care (NDC, “possums”) approach to infant sleep and cry-fuss problems.
